Common Water Heater Problems (And Probable Causes)
1st Jan 2019
Most of the people who are reading this blog are probably not old enough to remember a time when hot water was not available by simply turning a faucet handle. Thus, most of us take for granted that most of the time when we turn on the hot water faucet hot water will pour from it. However, there are times when, just as with any other device, hot water heaters fail to operate at peak efficiency. We can assure you that when they do it is not necessarily mean the end of the world or that you have been plunged back into a dark age of no running hot water. Here are some common water heater problems we would like to share with you and some probable causes.
- Your water heater is making “popping” sounds: This usually means that you have a sedimentary build up somewhere in your heater. Sediment deposits of this type are usually caused by “hard” water deposits such as minerals settling in your tank. If this should turn out to be the problem we recommend you have the water heater flushed out by a professional.
- Faulty heating system: There is usually a price to pay for ignoring regular maintenance on any household appliance or device. If you have ignored the recommended regular maintenance or if it is older than 10-15 years then you could be headed for a major failure in its heating system. And although a licensed plumber can often address this issue, it makes more sense to replace heater this old anyway. We have a 100 gallon gas water heater for commercial heating that is - when regularly maintained – powerful and durable. Our commercial gas water heater also comes with a 4 year warranty.
- Rusty discharge: This is another problem that may necessitate your having to buy a new water heater. Often the cause of rusting comes from inside the tank. And although a plumber can help you clean off some rust, you may still desire to replace it at some point just to be safe.
- System not turning on: Often a blockage in the gas line to your establishment or home may make it impossible for you to switch on the water heater. When this happens you will need to reset the water heater which you can learn to do from your owner’s manual.
The important thing to remember from all of this is to never try homemade fixes if you are unsure of what is causing your water heater to malfunction. They can injure of even kill you if you do not know what you are doing. It is best to have a licensed professional repair your unit if possible and if not you should replace it. You can replace your water heater with any of our powerful, electric and gas powered water heaters. We have a variety of tank sizes that go up to our 100 gallon gas water heater.
